spirulina & the smoothie..

coconut milk and ice

the goods.

just a spoonful.

a superfood.

green.

ch . ch . ch. chia.

green smoothie goodness.
the green smoothie seems to be quite the happy topic!
so…i will be sharing a recipe here and there
and talking about some of the extra “spicy” things
i use to fill me up.
the pear smoothie
. . . . .
1 bartlett pear
1/2 banana
4 chunks fresh pinapple
(typically i would use an apple, but i discovered that
i had none today)
4 sprigs of basil
1 handful of baby spinach
1tblsp coconut oil
1tblsp spirulina powder
1/2 cup coconut milk
6 pieces of ice
1tblsp chia seeds
….add coconut milk and ice – blend
….add spinach and basil, the green is gorgeous
….add fruit
….finally add chia seeds, coconut oil and spirulina
(the spirulina is an algae. this will make your
smoothie a blue green. sometimes it isnt’ pretty
but it is a super food. so use it anyway. on days
when iwant a gorgeous pink smoothie, i take
it in capsule form. because i am an artist and
i am all about crazy bold color!)
once you have it blended smooth. pour into
a tall glass and drink. i use a large car cup.
this holds 18-24oz. i sip on this and it really
fills me up. enjoy.
. . . . . . . .
you might be curious why i use a few items.
coconut milk/almond milk. these are great
alternatives to dairy. dairy just makes me
very congested and honestly sometimes leaves
me with a feeling of nausea. you can use soy
milk. i choose not to use soy, just because
i have read that soy can really mess with
metabolism in women who are at an age
of peri-menopause etc.
coconut oil. benefits can include hair care,
skin care, stress relief, maintaining
cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased
immunity, proper digestion and metabolism
…so i have read
spirulina. this is considered a “superfood”
it is full of beta-carotene, chlorophyll and
b-12. i take the “now” brand capsules and
also the powder.
so that was the smoothie of choice today.
i started back up yesterday after skipping
2-3weeks of smoothies. feeling so much
better already!
thank you for all the comments yesterday about
the gluten issue. the way i see it, when you cut
out high/bad carbs it is a win/win. all the
feedback, ideas and stories truly help push me
to eat better and be more mindful. which
is a struggle for me.
and soon….a post with images of artwork
and process . I SWEAR i am really doing
creative work! so look for that.
peace.

I’m loving your recipies! Gotta try them out.
I like seeing a mixture of stuff on your blog. Fun.
I like you.
Looks interesting, I wanna try it! This inspires me to wipe the dust off my juicer and start getting healthier too. Thanks for sharing artsy sister.

oh, that pear smoothie is now at the top of my list! i’ve never tried basil in a green smoothie but i like the sound of it.
