desire to inspire. meet christine mason miller.

when i first began running into blogs that called to me, christine’s
was one of the first. somehow we became aquainted through her
blog and via email. i will never forget the excitement i held when
i was out in los angeles with my husband on a trip and driving
to santa monica to meet up with her. she showed me around and
of course i never wanted to return to the cold of indiana. i also
remember being mortified that my husband wore a crappy
athletic logo tee. seriously…you can take the boy out of the country
but you can’t take the country out of the boy. wink.

over the last 6 years, i have been blessed to call christine a
friend. she has been a true mentor to me as i began my
journey in the art world. so when i had the opportunity
to show off her next bit of fun, well of course i was thrilled.

christine will be sharing a little bit about chapter 4.
mentors . guides . and beacons of light. i sit here a little
taken back.  when i think of christine, besides a dear friend,

Christine Mason Miller’s latest book – Desire to Inspire:
Using Creative Passion to Transform the World
– is a
collection of stories, exercises, images, quotes, and anecdotes
from twenty extraordinary contributors, all sharing insights and
experiences of how they create a meaningful life and, in turn, make
a positive impact on the world. Each chapter discusses a different
aspect of living a passion-fueled life, and this month Christine is
offering a 60-Second Snapshot of each chapter as part of her
Desire to Inspire Virtual Book Tour.

Today Christine discusses Chapter 4 ~ Mentors, Guides,
and Beacons of Light

“…while there is plenty of inspiration and guidance available to
me from places that are many steps removed from my day-to-day
life (I don’t have coffee dates with Anne Lamott), my most impactful
mentor relationships have always existed right in my backyard.”
~Desire to Inspire

Whenever I hear someone speak of their mentor, I feel a certain
kind of reverence, for these relationships are among our most
meaningful. My list of mentors includes my high school journalism
teacher, my college advisor, and a greeting card sales rep named
Dolores. Mentors are unique in the way they encourage us to go
farther than we might think is possible, and they do this on a
deeply personal level. These are the ones we have hours-long
conversations with, the ones who challenge us to dig deeper,
the ones who hold us accountable, the ones who believe in us 100%.

Christine Mason Miller is a Santa Monica-based artist,
writer, and explorer. Her next book – Desire to Inspire:
Using Creative Passion to Transform the World
 – is now

That’s awesome that you found a mentor in Christine Mason Miller – how cool! A mentor is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while now. I know people that speak of their mentors, and it sounds so awesome. There are people that I look up to, and people that I learn from, but no formal relationship where I can say “here is my mentor.” I think that would be neat though. But I wonder if I haven’t found a mentor yet because I’ve been so unclear on my goals..but now that I am getting clearer on my direction it would be a nice edition. So hey – if you ever want to mentor someone let me know! :)

Inspiration comes from many directions. I love taking classes and seeing what 10, 25 or 100 different students do with the same instructions. It is amazing to see how differently we each interpret/apply the same information!

My mentor was my college painting teacher, Carol Carter. She has taught me so much and encouraged me every step of the way through getting my degree. Now that I have finished school, she continues to teach me and help me grow as an artist. She is a wonderful, mega talented artist and friend. I feel very blessed that she took me under her wing!

I yearn for a mentor, so far it’s just all the artists that I interact with on facebook. The online art world is my inspiration and I love being able to take classes and find out about all the art people are making. I look forward to reading Christine’s book, she is very inspirational.

I find my inspiration all around me. I was out on the porch yesterday and crowned it “the idea porch”. I get some of the most fabulous thoughts on that porch. I find inspiration from the many teachers I have taken classes from, the blogs I read, books, magazines and participants in my own workshops. I love teaching and that is how I try to inspire others. I want them to think outside of the box. take my idea and put your own twist on it. they never disappoint! happy monday to you! ciao!

I can’t wait for the book as well! And I love the art! I find inspiration many times from other amazingly creative bloggers, from my 3-year-old, and most often from nature. The trick, for me, is to stay open to possibility.
