kahlil reeling it in. sacred life.
love is trembling happiness.
. . . . .
you know that feeling when you are a little kid, where the happiness just overtakes your body. where does that go as we grow older? i know for me it is still there buried deep underneath the layers of life. under the blankets of stress and the daily grind. what do we do to retrieve this feeling of joy that so often gets put on the back shelf because of the fear of being laughed at or maybe this sense that we are the silly one and therefore somehow not worthy of success or maybe even the worth that carries in friendship. even society.
each day my mind fills with so many ideas. thoughts and desires that i have about this crazy road i walk. i am a pretty lucky girl. i get to work from home most days. my husband helps cook meals and clean and after 16 years of being by his side, we still laugh at each other. (of course somedays i am pretty sure we might want to boot the other one out). but there is JOY. so much joy here in this place i call the middle. i have searched hard for this thing called joy over the years. feeling my footing slip on occasion. other days like today, i can feel that little girl giggling starting from the inside and carrying it to the outside in one body shaking squeal!
here is where i am heading…..LET’S DO MORE OF THIS! more squealing. more giggling at silly stuff. more smiling. more seeking. because really at the end of the day,
this life is short. it is packed full of heavy stuff. let’s just bring in more joy. here are some of my ideas of what we can do to make this happen…
.. get a stripey hulahoop and use it!
.. go buy a 48 count box of crayola sidewalk chalk. then create little love notes on your street. on the sidewalk. on your doorstep
.. open your windows. let the fresh air in and the stale juju. out
.. read kahlil gibran’s – the prophet. ( it’s a really good one )
.. ride. your. bike.
.. bake cookies. wrap them up. leave them for a friend who might need a little cheer.
.. send. real. mail. ( if you need some inspiration, check out jennifer belthoff’s – love notes. )
.. turn up the twinkle lights. (even in broad daylight)
.. don’t push the grocery cart through the parking lot. ride it.
anything to reel it in.
. . . . .
join liz and i over at chickadee road. it’s a souuuuuullllll party.
